Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.
One day, war broke out between the two races.
After a long battle, humans were victorious.
They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell.
Many years later...
Undertale is an RPG released in 2015 that was developed by Toby Fox, with some spritework done by Temmie Chang. It has received immense praise for its great story, unique game mechanics, and masterfully composed soundtrack.
In it, you play as a human child that has fallen inside of a mountain in which monsters of many kinds, having been sealed there by humans, made a home. Throughout the game, the player is presented with two choices: killing, or sparing the monsters they encounter in battle: and this choice will have very notable consequences on the events of the story.
Deltarune is a multi-chapter RPG, its first chapter having been released in 2018, the second one in 2021 and development for future chapters still ongoing. While much of the community of Deltarune has come from Undertale, the game is still known to stand on its own and has been praised for its story, characters, spritework, music and game mechanics.
In it, you play as a human teenager named Kris, who, after having been sent with a character named Susie to get chalk for their teacher, find themselves stuck in a new, different world. According to a legend a character named Ralsei shares, he, Kris and Susie are heroes prophecized to save the world from certain destruction, by ensuring balance between dark and light.
I discovered Undertale shortly after its release, via a lets play from a LPS youtuber. I instantly fell in love with the game, spent all my time thinking about it, making up characters and stories for it.
As for Deltarune, I was actively in the Undertale community when the release was announced, and just like everyone else I was immensely intrigued with the air of mystery surrounding it. I managed to go into the game completely blind, and do not regret it.
I was 10 when I discovered Undertale, and 13 when I played Deltarune. These games have seen me grow into the person I am today.
I actually don't have that many. Will put them in here once I think really hard about Undertale again.
